Is YOUR Child Safe This Halloween?

Yesterday I was near a Zellers and decided to buy some weed killer. I went to the aisle Jeremy and I had previously visited a month ago for garden supplies, assuming the killer would be in the vicinity. I half suspected they wouldn't have any. I didn't half suspect that in place of garden supplies there would be HALLOWEEN CANDY! The whole aisle was stocked to the brim with pumpkined boxes. It was like they expected a mad rush of people this weekend.

I'm sure we've all read stories of how stores like to bring out Christmas/Halloween/Thanksgiving/Valentine's Day/Easter/Cinco de Mayo corporate holiday crap out early, but 3 AND A HALF MONTHS early? The Halloween candy is going to expire BEFORE Halloween! The media often exaggerates the dangers of children finding sharp metal objects in their halloween candy. But I have not seen them do a repot on children finding maggots or dying from food poisoning. Maybe they should readjust their angle this October 31st. Parents shouldn't be looking inside the package for dangerous food, rather outside for the expiry date.

Am I being unconventional in expecting to see garden supplies in Zellers and not Halloween Candy during the middle of July? Next year I'll know to stock up on garden supplies in March.
