God Is In The Radio

So. Yesterday. . .I saw Sum 41. There were some intial signs pointing to trouble before we entered Barrymores: a) Sum 41 b) All Ages c) Demographics of people standing in line: 15 & Under and 40+. We didn't realize just how bad this concert was going to be until Robin noticed 60 minutes before we were going to enter the venue that it was an ALCOHOL FREE event. We went to a local pub and consumed a couple drinks. But by the time the opening band (who were soooo good that I forget their name right now) finally started we were tired.

I spent the majority of time watching the audience, rather than the bands. One guy who worked with the band came up to us and said, "You two are the quietest ones here. I like how you are just sitting there appreciating the music." Yes. That's what we were doing: Appreciating Sum 41 and some random band. Usually, I'm all about the "blending" but I just wasn't in the mood to scream every single time someone threw a bag of twizzlers near me.

A LOT of kids brought their parents. I've never gone to a concert with my parents. I've missed out on that concert bonding experience. My parents have never even driven me to a concert, let alone bought me tickets. One time my friend and I called Ticket Master and had the possibility of sitting 6th row centre at a NKOTB concert but my mom wasn't willing to hand over her credit card. It wasn't until later on in life that I learned when asking for money that I should ask the one who has a job.

There were a lot of little 7 year olds running around. I enjoyed watching the parents cringe every single time the lead singer said, "Fuck you." But not as much as watching the 7 year olds and their parents mosh. I can only imagine what they will be saying in school today: "Hey...I was moshing at Sum 41 with my mom." Sum 41 thought they were different than the Back Street Boys....in fact BETTER. I guess they didn't have a good view of the audience where they were standing and momentarily forgot it was an ALCOHOL FREE event.

Oh the fuck well. . .
